THe Kids of rutherford county podcast MIsrepresents the reality of the cases that brought change, including me and my life.

The Kids of Rutherford County podcast performs the important service of exposing injustices in juvenile justice that exist throughout the system and were especially prevalent in Rutherford County, Tennessee. However, it purports to do so by telling the story of the lawyers involved in court cases that challenged those injustices. To gain listens, Serial and The New York Times engaged in “narrative framing” that distorts the true story of these lawyers and these cases. As set forth throughout this site, I was not a beaten down, actively alcoholic lawyer stuck in juvenile court. I was not rescued by an energetic and idealistic young lawyer named Wesley Clark. The real story is one of overcoming addiction, a passion for justice and human dignity, and the courage to challenge the system while bringing that young lawyer along for the ride, helping him become a great lawyer in the process.
